Description: Extreme weather events have substantial social and economic impacts. This session will focus on observational and modeling studies of extreme weather events in the Americas. Papers addressing any of the following major topics are especially encouraged: 1) observational and modeling studies of extremes including impacts of climate variations (MJO, ENSO, PDO etc); 2) forecasts and predictability of extremes including statistical and ensemble techniques; 3) projections of future climate scenarios and changes in the frequency of extreme events.
