AGU Session NH09: Societal Impacts of Monsoon Variability in the Americas. AGU 2010 Meeting of the Americas, 8-13 August 2010 in Foz do Iguassu, Brazil.
AGU Session NH09: Societal Impacts of Monsoon Variability in the Americas. AGU 2010 Meeting of the Americas, 8-13 August 2010 in Foz do Iguassu, Brazil.
We invite presentations on studies seeking to quantify the risks posed by climate variability and climate change to various stakeholder communities, as well as studies on climate adaptation strategies in the American monsoon regions. This session is sponsored by the Pan American Institute for Geography & History (PAIGH) to provide a forum for scientists from PAIGH member countries to: 1) gain a better understanding of the sensitivities of services and practices within agriculture, energy, water resources, and ecosystem service sectors to seasonal and inter-annual variability of the monsoon system; 2) quantify the risk to various stakeholder communities; and 3) propose regionally specific scenario planning tools that stakeholders could employ to reduce their vulnerabilities and prepare for future changes in the
monsoon system and associated hazards.
Abstracts may be submitted through a link on the meeting website:
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja10/program/abstract_submissions.php. The deadline to submit an abstract is 31 March 2010.
Conveners: Jimmy O. Adegoke, Christopher L Castro and Tereza Cavazos
