The sudden death, this weekend in Bonn, Germany, of Mr. Mama Konaté (Mali), Chair of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA)
Below you find a message that reached us about the death of our colleague Mama Konate, a principal agrometeorologist from Mali.
Although Mali, as french speaking country, has no members of INSAM, I have met
Mama Konate several times in my period as president of WMO/CAgM and also at
project meetings in Wageningen, now perhaps 10 years ago. I had contacts with
him and his local collaborators every now and then about the famous "Mali
pilot projects in agrometeorology", which results I have tried to make better
accessible in my book "Applied Agrometeorology" and also on this website, in
my Roving Seminars and in my recent CAgM Report 104 that will appear this
month.
With Mama Konate we lose an important operational agrometeorologist who was
able as almost nobody else to combine work for his country with international
work in the fields of climate and agriculture. We must continue what he left
undone.
Kees Stigter, founding president of INSAM
