The AGRI4CAST Action is built around the JRC's crop yield forecasting system aiming at providing accurate and timely crop yield forecasts and crop production biomass for the union territory and other strategic areas of the world. The AGRI4CAST Action is built around the JRC's crop yield forecasting system aiming at providing accurate and timely crop yield forecasts and crop production biomass for the union territory and other strategic areas of the world. Also, the Action runs analysis of climate change impact on agriculture and adaptation strategies using modelling techniques, for Europe and other world areas key for agricultural production.

A researcher is sought able to contribute to the creation of weather datasets suitable for biophysical simulation (e.g. crops, diseases, insects) under climate change scenarios.

Main responsibilities are:

• Further enhance the multi-model weather generator libraries developed at AGRI4CAST;

• Develop procedures to implement downscaling from GCM runs to the AGRI4CAST weather grid, making reference to IPCC, the ENSEMBLE project etc.;

• Implement, in cooperation with the Action IT personnel, modules to apply climate scenarios to the generation of time series of daily/hourly weather data, as a part of the weather generator framework;

 

Skills/qualifications required:

• Main thematic area: Agrometeorology, Physics, or Agricultural Sciences. Expertise on modelling is required. Knowledge on weather generators, and on object oriented programming are an asset.

• Years of experience: PhD or 5yrs research experience in the domain, after the first university degree giving access to doctoral studies.

• English language at scientific writing level

 

Duration : 36 months
