Vacancy: An announcement on behalf of IFAD

IFAD is in search of a consultant in the field of meteorological services for the formulation of an adaptation to climate change project in Sierra Leone.

IFAD is supporting the Government of Sierra Leone in the implementation of agriculture-related NAPA priorities. The project focuses on addressing the vulnerability to climatic changes of key agricultural production systems, particularly rice production. Recognizing that weather and climate information is critical for agriculture, sixteen weather stations will be improved/established and made functional in relevant sites. In addition, modern weather measurement and observation equipment will be provided to monitor climatic impact on agriculture, particularly at the farm level.

We are now looking for an Agroclimatologist to carry out a study on the assessment of the climate monitoring needs for the project. The main objective of this consultancy is to assess the investments needs and operating costs for a cost-efficient establishment and running of a network of weather monitoring stations in Sierra Leone. The study will define the technical requirements and the cost implications for the establishment/rehabilitation of meteorological infrastructure, on the basis of GIS modelling, if possible.
