POSITION TITLE
Research Scientist on climate monitoring and analysis
DUTY STATION
Busan, Republic of Korea
COMMENCEMENT OF DUTY
1 July 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- (i) Compile the state of art monitoring efforts and provide support in assessing and updating the APCC monitoring plans
- (ii) To work in APCC's future development/operational projects on prediction and provision of early warning of extreme climate events and environmental conditions such as intraseasonal oscillation, tropical cyclone activity, ENSO/ENSO Modoki, Indian ocean dipole, droughts, floods etc. To support sharing of monitoring products on climate variability and change across APEC region
- The candidate is also expected (i) to facilitate interpretation of multi-model ensemble products based on physical principles and conceptual models, (ii) to develop current outlook bulletins, and (iii) to support the routine climate operations duties.
- This position reports to the Senior Research Scientist in charge of prediction and monitoring, and must be able to work as a group member and carry out any other duties assigned. Depending on the needs of the institute, the job duties and projects may change as and when needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD with background in Meteorology/Climate science
- To have reasonable experience in running and managing state of general circulation models on different platforms, processing and analyzing the data outputs, and reasonable ability in model development. Operational experience is a desirable qualification.
- Ability to carry out research independently under broad directions.
- Knowledge in F90, MPI, shell scripting etc.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Excellent oral and written skills in English.
- 2-3 years of post-doctoral experience.
- Publications demonstrating the abilities.
- Ability to work in group environment.
Desirable
- Operational experience.
SALARY
35,000,000~ 40,000,000 Korean Won per annum, including all the benefits. If the candidate has exceptionally good expertise and experience, the salary can be negotiable.
