The Bioclimatology group at the Büsgen-Institute of Georg-August
University of Göttingen, Germany, seeks a ***Postdoc for Micro- and Regional Climate Modelling*** from 1st October 2010 for 3 years in the frame of the joint Research Project BEST (Bioenergie Regionen Stärken / Strengthening Bioenergy Regions)
Responsibilities
Investigating the effects of land use changes on local and regional climate under conditions of climate change using a regional climate model and local measurements. Tasks include (a) installation of micrometeorological stations at study sites (technical support available), data processing, analysis and preparation for other subprojects, (b) downscaling and analysis of existing data from regional climate scenarios, (c) investigation of feedbacks between regional climate and vegetation of different land use types by means of a regional climate model. The project aims to find a land use strategy that optimizes adaptation to climate change and bioenergy production. Responsibilities also include data presentation of results nationally and internationally and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
Requirements
Dynamic and creative scientist with PhD in bioclimatology or related discipline (meteorology, physics, mathematics, geography, environmental sciences etc.). Experience with numerical modeling and micrometeorological measurements is required. Well developed skills in programming and handling of large data sets are needed. Good knowledge of English is essential, German a plus. Driving license required.
Benefits
We offer a 3-year Postdoc position starting in October 2010 in an international research group focusing on biosphere-atmosphere interactions using eddy covariance, stable isotopes, ecosystem and regional climate modeling at one of the top universities in Germany (<www.uni-goettingen.de/bioclimatology>). Salary and social benefits are provided according to German rules (E13 TV-L, full-time).
Application
Applications including the usual documents should be sent within 3 weeks to Dr. Oleg Panferov or Prof. Alexander Knohl, Büsgen-Institut – Abt. ioklimatologie, Büsgenweg 2, D-37077 Göttingen, or by e-mail to bioklima-job@gwdg.de.
