The working group Climatology of the University Bayreuth has an opening for a Research Scientist (TV-L E13 / 50%, limited for 1.5 years).

The starting date is 01.04.2010.

The start-up working group Climatology  (Prof. Dr. Thomas Nauß) focuses on ecological climatology.
Using hybrid approaches combining ground- and satellite-based land-cover and atmospheric remote sensing,   in-situ measurements and numerical  modeling  we bridge  the gap between global  scale climatology and local scale functional biodiversity and ecosystem research.
The position will include coordinative and scientific tasks in researching and teaching climatology and remote  sensing.  The  position  should  be  used  to write  a  project   proposal,  which  offers  you  the opportunity to extend your employment.
Besides working on ongoing research projects in Germany, Tanzania and Ecuador (German Research Foundation Research Groups),  you have  to handle a new satellite receiving  station,   to supervise student  assistants and  students with  their   thesis.  The  teaching
duties are  2.5  hours  and  include basically climate-geographic courses.
Candidates must have a master degree in Geography, Meteorology or related subjects. They should have   a   background   in  climatology,  ecological   climatology, modeling   and  remote   sensing. Programming experience in a script or higher computer language would be
advantageous. Handicapped applicants are preferred when equally qualified.  The University of Bayreuth especially encourages   applications   from  female   candidates   in   order   to  increase   the   proportion   of   female academics.
