Weather and Climate information

Last modified December 21, 2020 08:51

Online Weather and Climate Information for Agrometeorologists contains information about Analysis of Current Conditions (Global and regional monitoring maps provide rainfall information - accumulated rainfall, rainfall anomaly, and rainfall percent of normal) for the past 3hours, 24 hours, 10 days, 30 days, 60 days, and 90 days - and Analytical Tools.

1. World Weather Information Service

This global website presents OFFICIAL weather observations, weather forecasts and climatological information for selected cities supplied by National Meteorological & Hydrological Services (NMHSs) worldwide.

 2. Severe Weather Information Centre

The Severe Weather Information Centre (SWIC) is a World Meteorological Organization (WMO) website that provides a single and centralized source for the media and the general public to access official warning and information issued by National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) efficiently and effectively.

 3) Analysis of Current Conditions

Global and Regional monitoring maps provide rainfall information (accumulated rainfall, rainfall anomaly and rainfall percent of normal) for the past 3 hours, 24 hours, 10 days, 30 days, 60 days and 90 days.

4) Analytical Tools

a) RainfallThe Agriculture Online Visualization and Analysis System (AOVAS) and the TRMM online Visulaization and Analysis System (TOVAS) are two powerful tools that provide users a wide variety of data products and analytical functions for global and regional analysis.

b) Land Surface

The following tools provide global and regional land surface information such as  land surface temperature, enhanced vegetation index etc

 c)  Reanalysis:

NASA MERRA ( Modern Era Retrospective-Analysis for Reaseach and Application

 d) Drought:

Many products are provided by institutions or organizations that focus on drought.

 e) Tools and Resources

Tools and resources were compiled from different sources to aid WMO Members in improving their agrometeorological bulletins and increasing their knowledge of available agrometeorological-related resources

 f) Vegetation Health Products

Global and Regional Vegetation Health (VH) is a NOAA/NESDIS system estimating vegetation health, moisture condition, thermal condition and their products. It contains Vegetation Health Indices (VHI) derived from the radiance observed by the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) onboard afternoon polar-orbiting satellites: the NOAA-7, 9, 11, 14, 16, 18 and 19 and VIIRS from Soumi-NPP satellite. The VH products can be used as proxy data for monitoring vegetation health, drought, soil saturation, moisture and thermal conditions, fire risk, greenness of vegetation cover, vegetation fraction, leave area index, start/end of the growing season, crop and pasture productivity, teleconnection with ENSO, desertification, mosquito-borne diseases, invasive species, ecological resources, land degradation, etc.
