GREEN REVOLUTION KILLED OUR WATER RESOURCES

The (tropical) *rainwater* could be likened to the air. The water like air is finite resource. But when it is allowed to remain as a *re cyclical resource*, it appears to be infinite. Unfortunately for us, the tropical water could be reduced in to a finite resource and subjected for *terminal consumption* under the aegis of GR. It remained re cyclical through out the history till the unleashing of GR in late sixties. Our ancestry used it as a re cyclical resource only. By terminal consumption, we mean the way we use and finish the fossil fuels. That indeed is the dynamics of the crisis, which we are facing. We have come a long way from using the *seasonal/annual rainwater or say the monsoon yield as a re cyclical resource to the same reduced to the status of an exhaustible resource* thanks to GR. The same process manifests as *CLIMATE CHANGE*. The tragedy is that none looks at it as the handiwork of GR. Rather it is outsourced to the GHGs (green house gases)? We make an exception single handedly though. The fall out of all this is terrible. This year, great part of India is put on an undeclared crop holiday. It is time millions of farm based livelihoods are lost and farmer's commit suicide. *The GR deprives thus us of our food, jobs and kills too.* Things are certain to aggravate as the time rolls out and we cannot remain a spectator. Roll back the GR so that the seasonal rainwater is restored of its cyclical character. Rainwater as a re cyclical resource is sustainable and helps satisfy the numerous stakeholders. Rainwater reduced in to a finished good is found wanting to satisfy the thirst of humans here leave alone the food production. Contrast it with the World Bank crying wolf of millions of water wars on the anvil.
